Student Study Materials

Students should be prepared to answer written questions and perform hands-on tasks in each of these categories below.  The Study Guides for each of these categories can be found at the Florida Envirothon website: https://www.flenvirothon.com/study-guides
  1. Aquatic Ecology
  2. Wildlife
  3. Forestry
  4. Soil / Land Use
  5. Current Issue
    • For the Current Issue, students will do two things at the regional competition:
      • 1) Give a two-minute speech, addressing a question based on this year's Current Issue topic. For the 2022 competition, the topic is: Waste to Resources
      • 2) Take a written test covering the information about the Current Issue.

Training by Resource Professionals

Resource Professionals from the different topics/categories graciously donate their time to train students before the regional competition. Two Saturday sessions have been planned for February, 2022:
  • February 12 at A Philip Randolph High School (9:00 - 12:00)
    • WILDLIFE: Allan Hallman and/ or Eric Denis, FWC, will be on hand with the wildlife taxonomic trailer to give students an overview of some Florida critters and their lifestyle and needs.
    • CURRENT ISSUE: Kelsey Haupt Cook, Extension Agent, will review the Current Environmental Issue, WASTE TO RESOURCES and let us know what Jacksonville is doing.  She will also give the students some pointers on how to do presentations.
  • February 19 at A Phillip Randolph High School (9:00 - 12:00)
    • FORESTRY: Jon Johnson and James Tootle will fill us in on our iconic trees and their management. Such an important resource for our times.
    • SOIL/LAND USE: Allen Moore, retired District Conservationist and Soil Scientist by training will discuss all the reactions going on beneath our feet in another critical resource, our SOIL. We will learn how important soil is for growing our food and for supporting our homes and roads, and infrastructure.
